Masszure

Japanese light novels and e-books go on sale in overseas markets!

Fukuoka, Japan - May 26, 2015 - Masszure brings to you 20 book titles with the launch of e-books in overseas markets! The company focuses on providing low cost short stories via e-books for only 99 yen and works with translation companies as part of their strategy to make the contents available in multiple languages for global consumers. Moreover, 10 new titles will be released every month, which will expand the library of e-books available in the future.

Breaking through the Barriers
With the rapid growth of smartphones in the recent years, everyone can now enjoy a variety of things all at their fingertips. Combining this technology with the genre distribution of “light novels” and “essays”, Masszure expands the possibilities and touches a wider audience. Imagine being able to read while commuting to work or when relaxing at home during the holidays. Or possibly providing this kind of “entertainment” to people who are sick and lying in a hospital bed or to someone who needs to lie down in bed due to their disabilities. In addition, this medium solves geographical issues and language barriers making it available to people all over the world.

Increased Demand
Compared to Japanese comic books (manga), Japanese light novels are almost non-existent in overseas markets due to very strict author rights in Japan, and the vast amount of money needed to translate them to other languages makes light novels extremely expensive to be distributed overseas. In addition to that, the Chinese and Korean markets take priority over the western countries for the distribution due differences in cultural tastes. By promoting this particular initiative, it is now possible to meet the demands of the consumers around the world and Masszure plans on capitalizing on this untapped market

Industry Innovation
Due to the presence of distributors and retailers, as well as labor costs, major publishers can only provide a maximum of 2 to 3 percent discount for paper books. Moreover, author rights hinder the translation of content, which makes it unsuitable for international distribution. However, with the rise of private publishing, it will now be easier to expand globally. Paper books in the US are expensive because of the high level of English used in these books. The e-book market in Japan is bigger compared to the US however, and it is possible to establish the same level of content using a multilateral deployment and big revenue business model. Masszure integrates a vast number of channels available for this type of medium, and with its 99 yen price per book, it offers a product that is able to reach a wider audience regardless of their profession, gender, or even their health and economic conditions. On top of this, a number of books in English are also available in other languages opening the possibility of sharing particular topics across the globe. A book sold for 99 cents in English speaking countries will now be selling for 99 pennies as a wonderful and affordable option for consumers. A majority of the authors in private publishing company’s million sellers expressed their excitement with this price scheme. This sets the theme for a new industry innovation.

Reviving the Publishing Industry
In recent years, the publishing industry continues to struggle and is reduced to a small-scale industry. This is where light novels and e-books can contribute in order to grow the publishing industry and to provide an image for the new era of publishing. In addition to this, based on the fact that Masszure founder, Kosuke Honda, can handle the business himself while lying in bed for more than half a day despite of his illness, it suggests that it is possible to promote a new business model for both an aging and globalizing society.
