Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, February 6, 2015 – Takeda Pharmaceutical Real Estate Co, Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; "Takeda Pharmaceutical Real Estate"), and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; "Takeda") announced today that the ground-breaking ceremony had been held for its Shin-Tokyo Takeda Bldg. (provisional name) and that construction had begun. The new building is part of the "Nihonbashi-honcho 2-chome Redevelopment Project" (provisional name) that the two companies are carrying out jointly with Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; "Mitsui Fudosan").
The new building will stand 24 stories above ground (approximately 123 meters) and have four underground floors. It is scheduled to be completed in 2017, after which Takeda will establish it as the company's new Tokyo head office in place of the current head office location at Nihonbashi 2-chome in Chuo-ku. The ground floor and second floor will be open for public use as a communal space, and tenants (shops) will be solicited for the B1 floor.
The new building is to be constructed as a high-grade structure equipped with both a base isolation system and the latest BCP (business continuity planning) preparedness. At the same time, the building is designed to be in harmony with the surrounding streetscape and landscape, and to provide a real connection with the neighboring community. Meanwhile, the plaza will have an open space designed for community utilization as an evacuation area in the event of a disaster. With a design concept of being friendly to both people and the environment, the building aims to provide a comfortable working space for a diverse range of people while utilizing best-in-class technologies that reduce environmental impact.
The construction site is part of the "Nihonbashi-honcho 2-chome Redevelopment Project" (provisional name) being carried out jointly by Mitsui Fudosan, Takeda Pharmaceutical Real Estate, and Takeda. On the land for the building stands Fukutoku Shrine (Mebuki Shrine), which was rebuilt in October of last year; this January work began on constructing a plaza space, "Fukutoku no Mori" (provisional name), which will adjoin Fukutoku Shrine.
The site for the new building is the historical location of Takeda's offices in Tokyo since its earliest days in the Meiji Era. Takeda will continue to innovate to earn the trust and respect of all of its stakeholders, including patients around the world, medical professionals, and local residents, as a best-in-class pharmaceutical company.
