June 15 2016 , Japan | SHIKUMI DESIGN Inc. introduces the evolution of the musical instrument with KAGURA, The Motion Performance Instrument that turns movement into music. KAGURA is the musical instrument for a new age, turning your gestures and movements into music. Because it only needs your movement to create music, anyone can enjoy playing it. And with the 2015 beta release, professional musicians have been using it as a serious music performance tool. At the 2013 Intel® Perceptual Computing Challenge, KAGURA won the Grand Prize out of a field of 2,800 participants from 16 countries.

KAGURA has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the Sónar+D Startup Competition (http://sonarplusd.com/activity/15398/) at Sónar (https://sonar.es/en/2016), a highly acclaimed, international conference and festival that brings together creative, technological and cultural industries to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, debate, exhibiting talent, and generating business opportunities. From this year’s 120 competition entrants, three startups will be chosen by a panel of judges based on who can present the most compelling business model, scalability, team, business traction as well as the creativity of the project itself.
“Without the need for language, I believe KAGURA will transcend borders to be enjoyed by people all over the world.” –SHIKUMI DESIGN director and developer, Shunsuke Nakamura.
This summer KAGURA will also be launching a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to build on the project’s momentum in Japan and with the Sónar+D Startup Competition.
