Tokyo YMCA International School Introduces Grade 7 Class from August 2016

Tokyo YMCA International School

In addition to the current elementary program, Tokyo YMCA International School will add Grade 7 from this August and Grade 8 from next summer

Tokyo YMCA International School (TYIS) is excited to announce the addition of grade 7 to its current elementary program (grades 1 – 6) for the new school year beginning late August 2016. Grade 8 will be added beginning late August, 2017. TYIS has responded to parents who desire to keep their children at the school.

TYIS was established in 1998 in Koto Ward of Tokyo, near Toyocho Station on the Metro Line. TYIS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) through 2021. This accreditation helps to ensure a smooth transfer for students to other international schools. Also in the YMCA building is an English-based kindergarten and pre-school. As a non-profit organization the YMCA offers high quality education.

TYIS uses an American curriculum as its foundation for the core subjects: language arts and math that meet the “Common Core” standards for the USA. The curriculum for science and social studies meets international content standards. Integrated within this curriculum are weekly classes in physical education, swimming, music, art, computer skills, and Japanese.

Students can choose to participate in a range of after-school activities. These clubs have no extra cost, except for a materials fee. This year’s clubs have been hip hop dance, floor hockey, chess, global studies, drawing & writing, reading, robotics, and violin.
